Here's the scoop on me!

Sharon: Hi! Welcome to my blog! Besides teaching, I am married and a mother of 2 children, Brooke, who is 15 and Jacob who is 13. I live in Aston with my family. I went to West Chester University and Widener University for Grad School. I love to read and exercise and I especially love to go to the BeAcH!!

Brooke and Jacob

These are my two children. Brooke is 16 years old and in 11th grade. Jacob is 14 yrs. old and in 9th grade.

Classroom pets

Did you know that we have 2 classroom pets? Well, we do!! They are guinea pigs and their names are Tom and Jerry. They are brothers. Things you should know about Tom and Jerry is that they are very friendly. They love carrots and apples. They also like to be held. But watch out, when you hold them, you are guaranteed to have some hair on you!

Isn't she cute!! She is just as sweet. Hershey is a wonderful chocolate lab that joined our family 7 1/2 yrs. ago. She definitely has a place in our family!

This is a quick view of my classroom. Not a whole lot of space, but do-able.

Extra, Extra, Read all about Us!

This is what is hanging outside of my classroom. I put it up for Back to School Night. I just went on line and found an age appropriate page that students can fill in about themselves. Then I copied a outline of an apple onto red paper. Students cut out the apple, and glued pictures on the apple that told a little bit about themselves. The backing is newspaper pages.

Pencil Orphanage :(

I have to thank Claire, my grade partner for this one! After picking up many pencils on the floor throughout the day, I just put them in this bucket. Students can borrow from here, or collect a pencil they have lost.

SMART Beads!

If a child answers a question that may be quite difficult, then they have earned the smart beads. They wear these and return them at the end of the day. They also get a ticket to let their parents know that they earned the smart beads! I am also thinking about letting students who earn a 100 on a test, wear the beads.

Hallway Reminder...

I posted this at the doorway the students use the most. It is a reminder of how to walk in the hall.

Decorate your Desk!

Great way to decorate a boring, beige desk.

Need an Eraser??

LoVe, LoVe, LoVe this idea!! It took some finding, but I did it! I "borrowed" a gumball machine and put eraser tops in it. When a student needs an eraser, they just put a quarter in, twist, and out comes 3 erasers. The money will go towards something special for the class at the end of the year! I can't wait till they try it!

Celebrity SpotLight!

This bulletin board was previously called "NewsFlash" Same idea, just under a different name. Each week a child gets chosen to be "spot lighted" The year starts off with my poster so they get the idea of what to do.

TrEaSuRe BoX

Just dressing up the treasure box. I used scrapbook paper in the color scheme of my classroom, laminated it, and cut it to the drawer size.

WelCoMe!!

Cute idea from Pinterest!! I have this hanging on my classroom door. I got a wooden picture from from Michaels Craft store, added a coordinating color on the inside and wrote Welcome. On the back of the frame, I hot glued pencils which I staggered on the frame. I bought ribbon, tied a bow, and it was ready to be hung!

Drop BoX

This is great for the morning rush! When students have something to give me or the office, they just "drop" it here and I get it to the proper location. It confines some of the mess on my desk.

100 cup structure

Love this idea for a rainy day! I took an empty beer box, covered it with coordinating contact paper, bought 100 solo cups, put them in the box, and they are good to go! They love building with these. It is always a contest to see how high they can build.

Be a CEO!

Teacher supply box

When I first saw this, it was in the nurse's office. She put all her little supplies in each of the drawers. I use it for all the clutter in my desk drawer, such as paperclips, tape, sharpies, etc. I matched the drawer covers to my classroom color scheme.

Flower clock

How cute is this? I am hoping that the minutes on the petals will help my students understand minutes a little better.

pixie stix birthday balloons

Got this idea from Pinterest! Each child will get a birthday pixie stix on their birthday to take home. If their birthday is in the summer, then we will celebrate in June.

Reading Bench

Probably my most favorite thing in my class, besides my students, of course!! Our building maintenance man offered to make this. It is out of wood, he painted it and upholstered it ! The kids love it! He even made storage underneath. Thanks Charlie!!

Homemade DRY Erase boards

Took me a looong time, but I finally got it right. I bought plastic plates from Walmart (4 pack), and paired them with a dry eraser. On top of each eraser, I glued a pom pom. Students can write their answers on the plate and erase with the pom pom. Works great!! Pinterest idea!!

A Pencil to Borrow

Neat Idea!! I ordered a straw dispenser from a restaurant distributor and use it as a pencil caddy. When students need a pencil, they can borrow one from here and return it when they find their pencil.

Birthday Chart

Classroom Poem

Loved this poem since the first time I read it. Used my color scheme with ribbon and put it all together! It hangs on the wall where everyone can read it.

classroom journals

Like this idea, from Pinterest, of course! When students are done their independent work early, they can write in a journal of their choice. They ALWaYS have somethings to tell me, so maybe this will alleviate some of the stories that I hear! Good practice in writing also.

Said is Dead!

Lets admit it, we all have this problem. Students want to stick with the same words. Here's a super idea to use other words in place of SAID.
