We are thankful for so many things, I wanted my students to actually see what we can be thankful for! I decided to make this turkey and have the feather represent things/people my students are thankful for.
I made the body of the turkey out of brown poster board. The chest is scrunched up brown backing paper. This makes it look a little 3d-ish.
I cut the 'feathers' out of multi colored construction paper. I had each student take home 2 feathers to embellish as best they could, with anything! They used glitter, beads, paint, crayons, stickers, and even leaves. They also wrote what they are thankful for on each. We added the feathers as they came in.
My title for the turkey is Count your feathers and your blessing too!
Each one of my students from both classes gets to pick a leaf and write down things that they are thankful for. This is in my classroom on the back table. Many times I find students standing by the tree and reading the leaves.
I use scrapbook paper. It makes the tree much more colorful, like FaLL!
